This really should have been a Hallow'een blog post, with such scary examples! Find a support group quick! :-)

Yes, Jane, I'm being a bit mischievous, but I do like the exercise of thinking through "how could we make this as bad as possible" and then doing the opposite. I think this would work well for a learning task: In trios, brainstorm 10 ways you could make your next learning event as UNSAFE as possible for your learners. Share your lists with another group and note any that you've actually seen in practice. We'll hear a sample and recoil in horror at the most egregious examples.

Bren, I think that we're really onto something here with the DI methodology. Stay tuned for an upcoming post on this.

Jenny Giezendanner comments on The Top 10 Ways to Kill Dialogue in a Workshop

Tell the group, "Now is feedback time, but actually we've heard enough today." (I really heard this a couple weeks ago!)

Kathy McDonald comments on The Top 10 Ways to Kill Dialogue in a Workshop

Read your powerpoint slides, one by one by one, to the attendees, preferably with your back to the people as you read.

Say "and of course we all know that ...." a lot.

bren comments on The Top 10 Ways to Kill Dialogue in a Workshop

"depreciative inquiry" (TM) makes me laugh *every* single time.

jane vella comments on The Top 10 Ways to Kill Dialogue in a Workshop

You are a villain, Dwayne!
