How I Can Help Fight HIV/AIDS on my Bicycle
Sponsor me!This June 13, my daughter, Zoe, and I will again take part in a 20 km Ride to CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon. They money that we'll raise will help buy new, locally-appropriate bicycles for HIV/AIDS health workers in Africa.
Having lived in Tanzania for four years, I've seen the devastating effects that HIV/AIDS has on individuals, their families, and the wider community. But with the appropriate medication, care and other supports for people living with AIDS and their families, they can manage their illness and live for many years.
One of the key challenges faced by those working to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic is transportation. Poor roads and the remote location of many communities make it very difficult to travel from one community to another. While it is neither practical nor affordable to provide all HIV/AIDS workers with a motor vehicle, it is possible to provide them with bicycles.
The CAP AIDS Bike 2 CAP AIDS campaign raises funds towards the purchase of bicycles which are then distributed to the dedicated people working on the front lines in the battle against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
I invite you to sponsor us by clicking on this link. I'm aiming to raise $1,000, and I'm pleased that Zoe and I can do something that we love -- riding bikes -- to help others use bicycles for such a great cause.

Hi! I just came across this post again and realized that I never did brag about how we did on the CAPAIDS Ride. In the end, the WindPowered Team raised $1600. Learn more about it @ www.capaids.org
